What is Usborne Books?

Usborne Books and More is a children's books distributor who offers Usborne Books and Kane Miller titles to parents, teachers, schools, daycares and more!

The company is set up as a Direct Selling organization, meaning there is no store front. Consultants sell from the comfort of their own home, or face to face. This allows us to own our own business without the high costs of leasing and inventory.

With the addition of Kane-Miller, the company now publishes their own titles as well as representing Usborne Books. This gives Usborne Consultants a more diverse selection of books.


Am I my own boss?

Yes. However, you still have wonderful access to weekly personal trainings, online trainings, phone trainings and website training, so you are never alone. But as your own boss, you get to set your own hours and determine how much or how little you want to work.


How much does it cost to get started?

Every month Usborne Books offers a different Starter Kit. This kit has everything you need to start your own Usborne business, including

The cost can vary from $59 - $99 for the monthly special.

Usborne also offers a kit for $199, which offers a larger variety of books to help you get started.

You can do well with either kit.


How do I sell the books?

One thing I love about Usborne Books is the variety of ways you can market the books. Here are some of the ways:

  • Home parties, like Pampered Chef
  • Work one-on-one with school librarians to help them get books for their libraries*
  • Work directly with teachers*
  • Sell to preschools and daycares
  • Offer bookfairs
  • Share our Matching Grant program called Literacy for Lifetime (great for schools, non-profits, and churches)
  • Provide a shopping opportunity at a business or hospital
  • Sell online via your website
  • Share a catalog with friends and family
  • Offer a Reach for the Stars reading incentive fundraiser to schools and other organizations

*To work with schools and local libraries, you must be an Educational Consultant. This helps to maintain professionalism with all Usborne Consultants, and includes extra training.


How much can I make?

How much do you want to make? By promoting with Usborne Books, your income can be unlimited!

However, an easy breakdown is to show you party sales.

Party: A $500 party = $125 profit off the top (Hours invested = 4,  over $30 an hour!)

Bookfair: $2000 bookfair = $340 dollars profit. Organization receives $1000 in free books!

Librarian appt: Met with a librarian and get a $500 order! Profit = $125 - $150. (Hours invested, 1 - 2 hours)
(The school and library market is about building relationships and may take some time to develop).

Personal Shopping Appt: Met with 1 or 2 moms or grandmas to share the books. I often sell $100 or more at these, earning a $25 or more profit! Not bad for 30 minutes of my time.
