Have you ever met a Veterinarian who doesn't like animals? Do you know a Real Estate agent that has no interest in houses? How about a mechanic who hates working on cars?
No matter where you are in life, you need to love what you do. If not, you will not be happy. If you are not happy, you strive for less and accept things as is.
Realize, it is impossible to be happy with what you do at all times. There will always be parts of your job you dislike. If the following is in place, you will be able to swallow those lumps with some sugar and move on to the parts you enjoy.
a.) Love your mission. What is your goal, what are you working towards. For example, someone in Head Start may get frustrated when she doesn't see progress but knows that what she is doing will make a difference that she may or may not see.
b.) Love your product. If you don't love to tan, selling tan beds will get boring pretty quickly. Your product may be your services. If you do not love your drawings, how will others? Remember, you are not in the business of convincing others, or convincing yourself. That needs to be in place.
c.) Believe in your product and the company. I don't care if you love make-up if the make-up you are selling has some strange chemical that makes you nauseous or gives you hives. If you don't believe in it, your happiness (and moral ethics) will be compromised.
d.) Love your customers. If children irritate you, I wouldn't suggest toys. You need your customers more then they need you and it's hard to give great customer service if you don't like who you are dealing with or surrounding yourself with.
e.) Love your goals. Make sure you are setting goals that both challenge and entice you. If your goal is too easy, it is easy to disregard it. If it's too hard, you may give up before even starting. Be realistic, but also challenge yourself.
f.) Love how you do business. There are ways to work your business that may work, but if you feel unhappy or slimy at the end of the day, how can you really love your job or work.
Remember, without passion, their is no drive.
Rule #2.) Have Fun!
OK, this one is pretty easy.
BUT, so many people don't get it.
Look at a person in a suit. Look at their face. How often do you see them smiling, laughing and jumping up and down because they get to go meet with a client? Do you think that when they make a sale, they sit back and say "I am soo happy I helped that person. It felt good, and I can't wait to do it again?" They may have money or be on a pursuit, but how often do you see these people really having fun at their job?
When you look at them, you may aspire to be like them. But why are you aspiring? Their paycheck. You love their house, their car. Do you really love their job? Do they?
You can be successful, and hate what you do. But why would you? Is life about money or is it about enjoying it.
You need money to survive. You need happiness to live.
So combine the two! Find a business that you will enjoy doing, will be fulfilling AND where you will make money.
RULE #3:)
Be consistent in working your business daily
This is very important to reaching your goals. You won't hit your target if you don't work your biz. What you want to do is create habits, like brushing your teeth.
For some, maybe you work 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night
Maybe you work every other hour.
Maybe you just take advantage of bath or nap time.
You need to be CONSISTENT. If you want things to happen faster, work more hours. But if you work 10 hours one day and don't work your biz again for a few weeks, you will not create a successful business.
Here is to the wonderful habit of working a consistent business, no matter how many hours that may be.
